about an hour by car from Beppu, Yufuin, Aso,
and Takachiho.
Just five minutes from the old castle town,
Across the Edo, Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras,
life in this house slowly changed with the times.
Now, in the Reiwa era,
the house has been reborn as a place to stay.
That said, the renovation is minimal.
The view from the windows
has hardly changed in over a hundred years.
Please take your time here,
and immerse yourself in the way of life this house still holds.

Entrance
An old gate once passed through by samurai.
About five minutes from Taketa’s castle town, down a steep slope beside a small shrine for the water god, you’ll find the house quietly tucked away. A bamboo grove stands nearby, and fruit trees grow throughout the garden. In season, you may even pick some yourself.


Tatami Sofa Space
A quiet sofa to slow down.
A spacious room where you can relax slowly while looking out at the garden view.
Coffee and tea sets are prepared, so please enjoy them by the engawa.




Bedrooms | Sleeping areas
Relax on the engawa, with a glass of Japanese sake.
There are two beds in the tatami space. You can spend time overlooking the engawa and the garden, feeling the changing seasons. Two futons can be arranged as an option.

Listening to the voice of the garden on a quiet morning
A separate bedroom with two semi-double beds placed side by side. A comfortable space for groups of friends and multi-generational trips. Please enjoy the garden view from the windows.



Kitchen & Dining
Oita is delicious for both meat and vegetables.
A bathroom and washroom renovated using plaster mixed with soil from Aso. Onsen tickets are included, so you can either visit the hot springs or enjoy the earthen-walled bath here.
